3 Podcasts You Need to Listen to Now!

I have to admit I was pretty late to join the podcast bandwagon. The idea of listening to someone just talk was not a form of entertainment I wanted to engage in. Growing up, I listened to morning radio shows like the Steve Harvey Morning Show and thought “Can they hurry up and play some music?”

I stumbled upon my first podcast about a year ago. After getting free tickets to a live taping of “THE READ” podcast by Kid Fury and Crissle, I’ve been hooked ever since! The great thing about podcasts is that, unlike radio shows, you can tailor your podcast library to suit your taste. I have podcasts to make me laugh, motivate and some to help me go further in my screenwriting career. If you are looking to get into podcasts, here are the 3 podcasts you need to start with!

The Read

The Read Podcast

The one that started it all! Kid Fury & Crissle are literally a comedic match made in heaven. Their show covers everything from black excellence, weekly hot topics, and ends with them “reading” (aka calling out) a VERY deserving party out on their b.s. I highly recommend seeing them live as well if they come to a city near you.

Jesus & Jollof

Jesus and Jollof Podcast

I have 2 words for you: foolish goats. Go listen to Jesus and Jollof and you will know exactly what that means. Hosted by bestie goals/ dynamic duo Yvonne Orji (actress, Insecure) and Luvvie Ajayi (author, I’m Judging You), Jesus and Jollof is my go to when I need inspo to be my best self. Season 2 has been all about adulting and these queens are dropping gems. Their show is the perfect blend of real world problems with faith centered advice. 10/10 recommend.

Dead Ass with Khadeen & DeVale Ellis

Dead Ass Podcast

This is probably the easiest podcast for you to start with because as of now there’s only 1 episode. Dead Ass is a brand new podcast from social media power couple, Khadeen and DeVale Ellis. Their show covers relationships, parenting, family, work life balance and more. The first episode is all about marriage. So good! Since there’s only once episode, there’s really no excuse not to check it out!
