My Solo Getaway to Palm Springs

Every now and then it’s necessary to put life on pause and getaway to recharge. As a Cali native, I know there’s no better place to do that than Palm Springs. Last week, I packed a bag and headed there solo for a little rest and relaxation.

This was my first time ever traveling solo and honestly, I don’t know why I haven’t done it sooner. With its stunning mountain views and small-town charm, Palm Springs is the perfect place for some quality alone time. I definitely recommend you drive to appreciate the scenery BUT don’t be like me and leave late on a Friday afternoon. Otherwise, you’re asking to be punished by the traffic gods.

Where I Stayed

  • Sands Hotel and Spa: Okay so technically this hotel is not in Palm Springs but about 20 mins outside of it in a city called Indian Wells. The Sands Hotel and Spa is the perfect combination of modern luxury and desert oasis. This boutique hotel is fairly new to the palm desert area, having only opened one year ago. With complimentary poolside cabanas (no reservation required) and hammocks throughout the grounds, the Sands is begging you to take a load off. The deluxe king room is worth the splurge if for nothing else than the huge soaker tub!

The Best Things I Did in Palm Springs

  • Palm Springs Art Museum and Sculpture Garden: Located about 10 minutes from the Sands Hotel, the Palm Springs Art Museum is a great place to pass time while soaking up a bit of desert culture. While I loved wandering through the exhibit inside, my favorite part was the sculpture garden. There are two water fountains in the midst of the garden that are perfect for meditating and zoning out.
  • Stroll Downtown Palm Springs: What’s a getaway without a little shopping? I drove into downtown Palm Springs at the recommendation of the hotel staff and I’m so glad I did. It was so quaint and fun to walk around without the large crowds other travel spots are known for at this time of year. Be sure to grab some frozen yogurt as you are weaving in and out of the boutiques.
  • Watch the sunset from High Bar at The Rowan: After a long day of shopping, rest your feet and grab a drink at High Bar. This rooftop bar is located at the top of the Rowan hotel. It may seem like its reserved for hotel guests but its actually pretty easy to walk in off the street. I did lol! Get there right before sunset to enjoy a gorgeous golden view of the city and mountains.

I really enjoyed my solo weekend in Palm Springs. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.
